International Women's Day on March 8th

Women's Day:

International Women's Day celebtates on March 8th in every year. It is an ordinary day of global celebration for the economical, political and social achievements of women. It celebtates to movtivate the women for their continous progess in each and every fields.

International Women's Day is dedicate to all the ordinary women as either maker of history or makers of family, it is rooted in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men.

Started as a Socialist political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries (primarily Russia and the countries of former Soviet bloc). In some celebrations, the day lost its political flavour, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love to the women around them in a way somewhat similar to Mother's Day and St Valentine's Day mixed together. In others, however, the political and human rights theme as designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner.

The IWD is also celebrated as the first spring holiday in the Northern Hemisphere as the first day of March is considered the first day of the spring season.

“Progress for women is progress for all”

Very nice but so what?! A gap remains between theory and the reality of women's lives. Many issues from the past, such as violence and poverty, have not been resolved (will they ever be?). Today, as women join the labour force in record numbers, raise families and participate in their communities, barriers remain. Just recently (27 of Feb. 2006) we heard Tony Blair admit that a "massive amount of work" remains to be done to close the pay gap between men and women. This is just one of barriers keeping women, whether they are Aboriginal women, women with disabilities, lesbians, single women, lone parents or women living in poverty, from realizing their full potential.

Here are some quote said by famous persons:

No matter how happily a woman may be married, it always pleases her to discover that there is a nice man who wishes that she were not. ~H.L. Mencken

Women always worry about the things that men forget; men always worry about the things women remember.

Nature has given women so much power that the law has very wisely given them little. ~Samuel Johnson

Women are like dogs really. They love like dogs, a little insistently. And they like to fetch and carry and come back wistfully after hard words, and learn rather easily to carry a basket. ~Mary Roberts Rinehart

  1. Was Mary Roberts Rinehart actually a man in drag?
I can't believe an actual woman would write that!
